Ridley Scott to Reboot UK Transit-Disaster Film
What the world needs now is a disaster movie depicting the collapse of national infrastructures on a global scale. That, at least, is the thinking of Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian, who are planning to co-produce a fictional movie inspired by the 2003 BBC (non-comedy) mockumentary “The Day Britain Stopped.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Scott and Zaillian have acquired the rights to the BBC film and have set the project up at 20th Century-Fox. They are currently seeking a screenwriter. It’s unclear if Scott will direct the film.
The original, which you can watch in full below, was written by Simon Finch and Gabriel Range and directed by Range. The latter is deeply invested in depicting imaginary catastrophes: his film “Death of a President” (2006) was a mockumentary speculating what would have happened had George W. Bush been assassinated while in office.
